What a weekend! I can barely believe that the 4th
of July is behind us! This year is just flying by.
Unfortunately, my least favorite part of a long/holiday
weekend is the day immediately following. The day that you wake up and look
around your house with “post-vacation” eyes. You know what I’m talking about,
don’t you? When actually notice and care about the state of disaster your home
has become.
Yeah, our house was no exception to this insane
phenomenon. We didn’t host anything and on the days that we were home, we
lounged all day. Yet, I still found myself in the middle of a disaster zone
today. O, and we had next to no food in the cabinets.
So I spent my morning running through the various grocery
stores in order to restock our shelves. Plus, Josh and I are in desperate need
of a healthy meal since our weekend was filled with sweets and grease.
When I finally got home and finished unloading the car of
the groceries, Josh came in the door for lunch. As we sat together amidst the
mess, I assured him that he would not come home to this pit after work.
I’ve spent the last few hours fielding phone calls,
folding the forgotten laundry, wiping down crumb crusted counters, and putting
away the random items we just dropped wherever we stopped needing them.
As I look around, I realized how grateful I was for the
mess. Now, I know that sounds crazy but I really am thankful for the mess I had
to clean today. The crumbs on the counter were from the pizza we ordered so
neither of us would have to cook. The dirt on the floor is from the walk we
took Harvey on. The pillows and blankets messily tossed on the couch were from
the last two days where we lounged and re-grouped from our busy week.
The mess is evidence of a wonderful weekend. One where I got
to spend an immense amount of quality time with my husband with no agenda. It
was wonderful. So I am incredibly thankful for the mess I found myself in
today, and I hope there is another one in the near future.
